Installation and maintenance of solar street lamps:
(1) Standardize the installation process to ensure safe operation
Preparatory work
Site selection: The installation location of photovoltaic panels should be unobstructed (such as trees or buildings), ensuring an average daily sunshine duration of ≥4 hours. The foundation of the lamp post should be designed based on the height of the lamp post (for example, a 6-meter lamp post requires a 1-meter × 1-meter × 1-meter concrete foundation), and its load-bearing capacity should be no less than 1.5 times the total weight of the lamp body.
Tools: Prepare an electric drill, wrench, level, wire crimping pliers, etc. Insulated wires (wire diameter ≥2.5mm²) should be used for battery wiring to avoid short circuits.
Core installation steps
Lamp post fixation: Fix the lamp post vertically on the concrete foundation and calibrate it with a level to ensure that the verticality deviation is ≤1°, preventing it from toppling over in strong wind weather.
Installation of photovoltaic panels: The inclination Angle of the photovoltaic panels should be adjusted according to the local latitude (for example, in areas at 30° north latitude, the inclination Angle is approximately 30°-35° to maximize the absorption of solar energy). When wiring, distinguish the positive and negative poles (red for the positive pole and black for the negative pole) to avoid reverse connection and damage to the controller.
Battery and controller connection: The LiFePO4 battery needs to be connected to the controller first, then to the photovoltaic panel and the LED light source. The controller should be fixed in a waterproof battery box (to prevent rainwater from entering), and the charging voltage (usually 14.6V for 12V batteries and 29.2V for 24V batteries) and the lighting time (such as 18:00-6:00) should be set properly.
Debugging and Testing
Pre-power-on inspection: Use a multimeter to measure the output voltage of the photovoltaic panel (at noon on a sunny day, it should be ≥18V/36V, corresponding to 12V/24V systems) and the battery voltage (about 13.8V for a fully charged 12V battery and about 27.6V for a 24V battery), and ensure the wiring is correct.
Functional test: Simulate a dark environment (cover the photovoltaic panels with cloth) and observe whether the street lamps light up automatically. Test the dimming function (such as whether the human body sensor switches brightness normally) to ensure that all functions meet the design requirements.

(2) Key points of daily maintenance to extend service life
Regular cleaning
Photovoltaic panels: Clean the surface dust, leaves and other debris once every 1-2 months (rinse with clean water and avoid scratching with hard objects). If there are bird droppings or oil stains on the surface, wipe them with a soft cloth dipped in neutral detergent to ensure conversion efficiency (dust coverage will cause efficiency to drop by 10%-20%).
LED light source: Check the lens for dust every quarter. When cleaning, turn off the power and wipe it with a dry cloth to prevent water droplets from entering the lamp body.
Battery maintenance
Avoid overcharging and overdischarging: The controller needs to be inspected regularly (once every six months) to ensure that the overcharging protection (automatically cutting off charging when the voltage is too high) and overdischarging protection (automatically turning off the street lamp when the voltage is too low. Generally, the protection voltage for a 12V battery is 10.5V and for a 24V battery is 21V) are functioning properly to prevent battery damage.
Long-term storage: If the street lamp is not used for a long time (such as during the off-season in scenic spots), the battery should be fully charged before storage. It is necessary to recharge it every three months to avoid capacity loss due to low power.
Troubleshooting and repair
Common Fault Handling
If the street lamp does not light up: First, check the battery voltage (if it is lower than the protection voltage, manual charging is required), then check if the controller is faulty (replace the spare controller for testing), and finally check the LED light source (use a multimeter to detect if the light source is in the path, and replace the module if it is damaged).
Shortened battery life: Check if the photovoltaic panels are blocked (clean or adjust their positions), and if the battery capacity has declined (use a capacity tester to test; if it is less than 60% of the rated capacity, the battery needs to be replaced).
Professional maintenance: In case of complex faults such as controller burnout or photovoltaic panel damage, contact the manufacturer or professional personnel for repair. Do not disassemble it privately (especially LiFePO4 batteries, although safe, improper operation may still affect performance).
Warranty and replacement
Warranty period: Generally, photovoltaic panels are guaranteed for 5 to 10 years, LiFePO4 batteries for 3 to 5 years, LED light sources for 2 to 3 years, and controllers for 1 to 2 years. It is necessary to keep the purchase contract and warranty certificate. In case of quality problems, apply for after-sales service in a timely manner.
Replacement cycle: It is recommended to replace the battery 1-2 years before the end of its cycle life (for example, a battery with a 3,000-cycle life is recommended to be replaced after 8 years of use) to avoid sudden failure that may affect lighting. If the glass of the photovoltaic panels is damaged or the frames are corroded, they should also be replaced in time to ensure the power generation efficiency.
